While my job as a beauty editor is to “know” the latest and greatest in the industry, much of what is on beauty counters are just a bunch of BS. (Yes, I said it.) And no one understands better than Andrea Q. Robinson.
Robinson has worked in the industry for years as a beauty editor, marketing director, and consultant, and knows the cosmetics industry. So she shares all her knowledge in a new book called “Toss the Gloss: Beauty Tips, Tricks, and Truths for Women 50+”.
When we asked Robinson why she felt the need to prepare a practical guide for mature women, she told us: “Women over 50 spend $ 4 trillion a year on goods and services, and our cosmetic needs Beauty ignores the industry with the exception of selling anti-wrinkle creams! I chose to challenge the beauty industry with their seductive but sometimes unreal tactics. ”
After a long weekend of “Toss the Gloss”, we highlight seven hair and make-up bugs that women over 50 should avoid.
As you read through these proven tips, Robinson reminds you: “Do not try to recapture the young, stay behind, remember that every time you take a lipstick out of your purse or make a cosmetic purchase. ”
1. Do not skimp on a beauty sleep. Never.
A good night makes the difference for our skin because it repairs and regenerates itself while we rest. Lack of sleep leaves the skin dull and lifeless and accentuates dark circles under the eyes.
2. Hide dark circles with a much lighter concealer does not ever work.
This will only make you look worse since it will focus on wrinkles and puffiness. Apply your concealer with a light hand, gently layer it on your makeup and dab it with a small flat stiff brush (or use your ring finger or a high-quality silk sponge).
3. Do you really want to look old? Use powder blush.
Your skin is probably not as smooth as it was and may have some lines and rough spots. Red Powder will sit in these lines, and your cheeks will eventually be uneven and uneven.
4. You can pick your own eyebrows, but it is best to leave this technique of care to a specialist.
The falling eyes can be modified by slightly raising the eyebrows and extending them towards the temples (rather than folding the curve of the tail around the eye). The bow is an important part of the front and should be a gradual and very soft buoyancy.
5. If you have these little demonic vertical lines on your upper lip, throw away the shine.
The same goes for all dark lipsticks. Unless you have dark, rich skin or chubby lips, discard these deep hues. You can look sexy and refined in the tube, but dark shades slip into these lines around your mouth and nothing bother you more than bleeding lipstick.
6. Not be influenced by fictitious celebrity styles.
Get a color that matches your complexion, a cut that fits your body and is not obsessed with what you can not have – especially since a quick look in the mirror could prove that you probably have enough work with it.
7. Since it is totally gray, it can be dazzling.
You should always take care of gray hair with proper care, including regular cuts, nourishing conditioners, and the occasional hair mask. Gray hair is drier and coarser than hairy pigments.
Gray hair left unattended will never live up to the beautiful statement it can make about entering the mid-life years.
